Visual studio 2010 merupakan software yang dapat digunakan untuk mengembangkan aneka aplikasi, baik aplikasi perkantoran, bisnis, personal bahkan Games yang dapat berjalan di Console, Web atau pun Windows itu sendiri. Visual studio sudah mencakup kompiler, SDK, Integrated Development Environment (IDE), dan dokumentasi (umumnya berupa MSDN Library sebagai fungsi HELP). Melalui visual studio kita dapat membuat aplikasi menggunakan berbagai compiler bahasa pemrograman, yaitu Visual C++, Visual C#, Visual Basic, Visual Basic .NET, Visual InterDev, Visual J++, Visual J#, Visual FoxPro, dan Visual SourceSafe.
